This album of all original songs was written and recorded in the space of one month in May of 2000 in a basement studio at Roy's home. He had no previous experience with recording gear and had only been in a friends home recording studio to record one song prior to purchasing his own studio equipment.

It was recorded through a Roland VS-1680 digital studio. Roy wrote all the songs and plays all the instruments. He only played acoustic guitar before starting the project, so he had to learn rudiments of piano, bass, and drums as fast as possible to complete it before the summer performing season arrived.

After the project was completed, Roy would print 20 inserts, burn 20 CD's, and package them up each night so he could sell them at every event he could find to play at. Many of his first season performances were free, performing for every kind of local church event imaginable in Salt Lake City, so long as at least 100 people were attending and he was allowed to sell his CD's. He sold approximately 6400 of them in that first year!

I'm On My Way

Words & Music By: Roy Rivers
LYRICS/CHORD SHEET | CHORDIE FILE

Well sometimes my life feels like I'm in a cage
Can't seem to stop this pain, can't seem to stop this rage
I'm running fast away from all this agony
I say I'll be ok, but still it's killing me
And I'm on my way

Sometimes there's no control
When things have got me down
It's like an endless scream but yet there's not a sound
You say there comes a day when my young heart will heal
But you don't understand how living makes me feel
And I'm on my way

Oh when is my head gonna be like my soul
Spending all of my time digging out of a hole
Work on cleaning it up taking back the control
But I can't think
Are you helping me out with a little more line
Are you talking a talk am I wasting my time
Is there really a place is there really a time
Where peace is
I want to know I want to know I want to know

Days turn into months, then into years
And it's slowly lifting me
All of my sadness and fears
They are slowly leaving me

Well it's been three long years, I'm in another place
And I no longer cry when I behold my face
Another point of view, another sunny sky
Another conquered day and another thing to try
And I'm on my way

You Are The One

Words & Music By: Roy Rivers
LYRICS/CHORD SHEET | CHORDIE FILE

You are my confidant, everything I'll ever want
You are my morning sun, you are the one.
In my world of ups and downs,
You remain my solid ground
The shoulder that I lean upon, you are the one.

You are the one
You are the one
A song of peace and comfort, in my arms.

No one's meant to walk alone, need someone to call upon
Another voice to sing along, you are that one
Moving 'round and spending time
Peace of heart brings peace of mind
Only you could be so kind, you are the one

You are the one
You are the one
A song of hope and comfort, in my arms.

Back in time when we first met,
Like a dream I can't forget
You saved my heart from emptiness, I must confess
Now the years are rolling on,
Love grows more with every one
And I am still calling you my only one

You are the one
You are the one
A song of love and comfort, in my arms.
You are the one, you are the one, you are the one

A Couple Of Candles

Words & Music By: Roy Rivers
LYRICS/CHORD SHEET | CHORDIE FILE

I was just thinking about you darling
Hoping than you might be thinking of me
This being away and just telephone calling
Is starting to get at the better of me

I'm moping around and the songs I'm singing
Are feeling so far away
I'm missing you darling and this homesick feeling
Has got me and it won't go away

So kiss me darling and hold me so tight
Tell me you'll love me clear on into the night
Like a couple of candles we'll be making some light
Till the dawn

I was just thinking about you darling
Hoping than you might be thinking of me
I'm making some plans for a little homecoming
Just my way to say what your meaning to me
Since you've been gone I've been lost and lonely
And feeling so far away
I'm missing you darling and this homesick feeling
Is something I'll be putting away

I'll kiss you darling and hold you so tight
I'll tell you I love you clear on into the night
Like a couple of candles we'll be making some light
Till the dawn

We'll be making some light
We'll be making some light

I Am Hope

Words & Music By: Roy Rivers
LYRICS/CHORD SHEET | CHORDIE FILE

I am, I am, I am, I am hope ....
What do you do when you're lonely?
What do you say when you're down?
Where do you go when you're feeling low,
And the path to all your dreams just can't be found.

Come to me, there's a better day tomorrow
Come to me, I can heal your weary heart
Here you can begin, you can learn to live again
You can set aside your emptiness,
Even mend a broken heart

What do you say when you're angry?
What do you lose when you're lost?
Do you wonder why the world keeps rushing by,
You'll reap a bitter fortune if you're haunted by the cost.

Come to me, there's a better day tomorrow
Come to me, I can heal your weary heart
Here you can begin, you can learn to live again
You can set aside your emptiness,
Even mend a broken heart

Not all of pain is for sorrow.
Not all of tears are for crying.
Not all alones are for loneliness.
Not all of anger is for raging war.
I am hope, I am hope, I am hope ...

Learn To Live Again

Words & Music By: Roy Rivers
LYRICS/CHORD SHEET | CHORDIE FILE

How can I begin to tell you what I feel inside?
The depth of my depression is impossible to hide.
It's anything and everything that happens in a day
And I know I could recover if I had the will to say.

Heart, Stop your breaking
Head, Stop your aching
Mend your troubled spaces
And learn to live again

She was everything I dreamed she possibly could be
A breath of inspiration in a world of misery
She must have come from heaven
Just to heal my broken heart
For when a heart is broken, your world just falls apart

Heart, Stop your breaking
Head, Stop your aching
Mend your troubled spaces
And learn to live again

Heart, Stop your breaking
Head, Stop your aching
Mend your troubled spaces
And learn to live again

High High Home

Words & Music By: Roy Rivers
LYRICS/CHORD SHEET | CHORDIE FILE

It must have been the perfect day
I spotted her and right away I saw it
From the aeries hiding place
Springing up into the racing currents

Outstretched and sailing through the clearness of the sky
The whole world below her
Like a vision from her high, high home
And the wilderness below
From her high, high home
Look upon the world below

Crying out her freedom song
Would that I could come along and sing it
To the sun and back again
Fly away and teach a man to feel it

An appreciation for the wilderness and sky
An understanding
Of the creatures and their high, high home
And the wilderness below
And their high, high home
Look upon the world below

From the eagle's home on high
Like a dream for you and I

Crying out for freedoms' song
Would that I could come along and sing it

To the sun and back again
Fly away and teach a man to feel it
An appreciation for the wildness and sky
An understanding
Of the creatures and their high, high home
And the wilderness below
And their high, high home
And the wilderness below
And their high, high home
Fly as high as they can go
And their high, high home

I Am Alive

Words & Music By: Roy Rivers
LYRICS/CHORD SHEET | CHORDIE FILE

Oh the morning is calling to me
Why don't you rise and shine
Take some time to see the dawn of the day
Splash some sun on your face
Your mind won't be dwelling on tired bones
Or aches in your muscles
There's no room for troubles
When you see it begin
Let the sun shine in
Oh everything's right
When the dark yields to light again.

CHORUS...
I am alive, I long for the morning sun
I am alive, and closer to what I'll become
I am alive, I'm looking for another day
And feeling that I'm on my way, I am alive

So tell what you're doing today.
Where are you going, how are you showing
You've got something to say.
That you're really okay
It's all in the way that you choose to feel
It's not about the wishing
It's all about decisions
That you're willing to make
The control that you take
Let us welcome the day
And live all of the way till the evening

CHORUS

Oh look, it's near the end of the day
The sun is a setting, the creatures are resting
In their homes in the wild, like an innocent child
Today is but a gift that has come along
It's the verse and the chorus of every song
Where the words meet the rhyme, in the rhythm of time
Let us welcome the night
With the fading of light comes the dream time

CHORUS

Hi Mom, It's Me

Words & Music By: Roy Rivers
LYRICS/CHORD SHEET | CHORDIE FILE

Well I listened to the radio
The other night in bed
I'd been singing on the road somewhere
And feeling about half dead
The announcer took a phone call
From a woman as she cried
She told of love and happiness
And how it up and died.

There was something in her story
And I guess it caught my ear
I imagined how it must have felt
To carry all those years
How a moments indiscretion
Had produced a little life
And a fifteen year old mother
Who was made to sacrifice.

There ensued a bitter battle
As her folks became enraged
They would let her bring him in the world
Until a couple came
Who would give the child the kind of life
That wouldn't need repair
But it broke the heart and spirit
Of this frightened little girl.

Well, she told of how she talked to him
And felt his kicking feet
And how she sang him lullabies
To put herself to sleep
And when he was delivered,
She was not supposed to see
But she caught a glimpse of a birthmark,
Like a heart, upon his knee.

Well at that very moment
Something shook me in my brain
Cause I had searched for many years
To learn my real mom's name
And I threw aside the covers
From my bed in that motel
And stared down at my knee
And the little heart I knew so well.

Well I called the station quickly
And I learned the lady's name
And I found that her address
Was in this town where I was playing
So I dressed myself and drove there,
I just had to go and see
And it was almost like I saw myself,
And I said -- Hi mom, it's me

There’s a truth within the story
Like a tune for every song
And you never know when happenstance
Will help you right along
And for some it's a beginning,
And for some it's in an end
And for some it's in the living
And the truth it has to lend.

True Love Is...

Words & Music By: Roy Rivers
LYRICS/CHORD SHEET | CHORDIE FILE

True love is…
Surrender, to the feelings of our hearts
To long for one another's soft embrace
To never grow apart

The warmth of your caresses
The tenderness you show
The way you love me still today
In spite of everything you know

Some say love is just for show
It's easy come and easy go

Instrumental

True love is…
Believing, and facing who we are
To look beyond the darkness and the clouds
While reaching for the stars

The one and only answer
It's what I feel for you
An expression of the highest thoughts I know
And making love with you

An expression of the highest thoughts I know
And making love… with you.

Magic In Your Eyes

Words & Music By: Roy Rivers
LYRICS/CHORD SHEET | CHORDIE FILE

If I had the opportunity to hold your eyes
For a moment in my gaze
I'm sure you soon would realize
All the different ways and directions my mind races
And what my heart implies
How I'm frozen in this lovers dream
By the magic in your eyes.

I am like the sculptor
For the words he has to say
Are best communicated when his hands are on the clay
So here I am with my guitar
And I hope you'll sympathize
As I try to match this melody
With the music in your eyes

Love is like the raging river
We sometimes rush too soon
But if your heart is what you give her
Then true love sings of simple things

If I had the opportunity to hold your eyes
For a moment in my gaze
I'm sure you soon would realize
All the different ways and directions my mind races
And what my heart implies
How I'm frozen in this lovers dream
By the magic in your eyes.

Hushabye

Words & Music By: Roy Rivers
LYRICS/CHORD SHEET | CHORDIE FILE

Go to sleep my baby
Close your eyes my darling
I am here to hold you -- in my arms
I will always love you
And through this time of growing
I am right beside you -- so hush-a-bye

Every day is like a new beginning
And how each precious moment flies
Tender hearts and tender feelings
Lend themselves to dreaming
So baby close your eyes

Go to sleep my baby
Close your eyes my darling
I am here to hold you -- in my arms
I will always love you
And through this time of growing
I am right beside you -- so hush-a-bye
